Alternative PL Outline

Overview of Alternative PL Outline
This professional learning plan is designed to support my innovation plan, increasing iPad integration in PreK–2nd grade classrooms to enhance literacy development and student engagement. It addresses the current disconnect between technology access and effective classroom use by building teacher confidence and instructional capacity.

The PL model follows a “Go & Show” structure, emphasizing active, hands-on learning, in-class modeling, and teacher-led application. It aims to create a sustainable shift in mindset and instructional practice through real-time support, collaboration, and reflection.

Incorporating the five Principles

A. Duration/Ongoing Support

  • Professional learning is spread across multiple months

  • Includes embedded coaching, peer observation, and reflection

  • Emphasizes sustained and scaffolded learning rather than one-time sessions

B. Implementation Support

  • Teachers receive real-time in-class support through co-teaching and modeling

  • Follow-up sessions and flexible coaching are provided

  • A digital coaching hub offers videos, planning, and tech support

C. Active Participation

  • All sessions are interactive and hands-on

  • Teachers create and implement lessons using iPads

  • Collaborative planning and model classroom walkthrough are included

D.Modeling

  • IC and lead teachers model tech-integrated literacy instruction

  • Teachers observe live classroom examples, debrief, and implement the strategy themselves

E. Specific Content

  • PL is tailored for PreK-2nd instructional needs

  • Focuses on age-appropriate strategies like digital storytelling, phonics apps, and Seesaw portfolios

  • Aligns with literacy standards and developmental best practices

Fostering Collaboration

  • Grade-level learning communities will meet biweekly to co-plan, share student work, and reflect on implementation.

  • Peer walk-throughs and virtual share sessions will foster a culture of shared practice and support.

  • Teachers will use Seesaw to upload and share snapshots of tech-integrated lessons with colleagues across grade levels.

Leadership Team

  • Instructional Coach: Go & Show sessions, model lessons, support teachers in planning and reflection, and manage feedback loops.

  • Campus leadership: Support scheduling, observe and celebrate implementation progress, and align PL with campus goals.

  • Teacher Leaders: Host peer observations, co-facilitate planning groups, and share successes during reflection cycles.

Audience and Needs

  • Pre-K-2nd grade teachers, instructional aids, and interventionists

  • Practical strategies for using iPads meaningfully

  • Confidence in managing tech during core instruction

  • Grade-level examples of how tech supports literacy goals

  • Ongoing support in a safe, non-evaluative environment

Instructional Design

  • I am using a Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) and Finks 3-column Table

Schedule

  • August- Kickoff session, introduce the innovation plan and PL vision.  Present the Go & Show model and model simple Seesaw/iPad integration strategies.  Teachers engage in hands-on exploration and set initial goals.

  • September - Go Phase: Instructional coaches model tech-integrated literacy lessons in real classrooms.  Teachers observe, reflect, and plan adaptations for their students.

  • October - Show Phase, teachers implement modeled strategies in their classrooms.  I will provide real-time support and feedback.  Teachers begin collecting student work and reflections.

  • November - Reflection and Collaboration, teachers engage in peer share-outs, walk-throughs, and structured reflection. Group discussions focus on what's working and how to make refinements.

  • December-April - Sustain and Scale, monthly coaching cycles continue.  Teachers refine and deepen their tech integration practices, participate in PLCs, and share digital evidence of student learning.  Adjustments are made based on student data and teacher feedback.

  • May- Celebrate and Plan for Sustainability, end-of-year showcase celebration to highlight student work and share their growth journeys.  Reflect on the impact of the PL model and gather feedback to inform next year's plan.  Identify teacher leaders to help sustain momentum and expand the initiative to other grade levels or content areas.
